Varaždinske Toplice is the oldest thermal spa whose history goes back to the Roman times, when the Romans used the thermal spring for healing.
The first mention of the name Toplissa was recorded in the Middle Ages. In the early 17th century the old wooden building was renewed so members of high society began going there. The modern thermal spa and the beginning of health tourism was established in 1820. Until WW II, Varaždinske Toplice were developing; Lovro's baths and Constantine's home were built (with its famous café, a dance parlour and a promenade, it was the central place of Toplice's social life), along with the hotel „Josipova kupelj“. The life here was special and fun, and Varaždinske Toplice is one of the prominent thermal spas in Europe.
In WW II Varaždinske Toplice suffered damage, the hotel was burnt down and the spa was ravaged. When the „Minerva“ complex was built in the 1980's, Varaždinske Toplice restored its reputation of an interesting tourist site. The „Minerva“ hotel is our destination. They have been nourishing true domestic cuisine and the preparation of traditional food from the famous Toplice's inns 1, 2 and 3 and the preserved menus from the formal parties from the first day.
