Gornji Kneginec

On the idyllic hills in the very vicinity of the town of Varaždin, but still far from the daily bustle, lies the municipality of Gornji Kneginec. This area has always attracted nature lovers, good local cuisine and even better drops of wine.

The distant history, dating back to the 11th century, at the time when Andrija II Arpadović became the Croat-Hungarian king, is proved by the Kneginec Tower, which with its proud beauty attracts the views of passers-by and visitors.

It takes them back to the ancient times of kings, serfs, princes and vassals, and tells the story of the fight for the rule of the two brothers of the king, the fortified town and the legend of the beautiful princess by which Kneginec was named.

If you visit this area you will enjoy the beauties of curia, castles, sunny vineyards, forests, ponds as well as the famous hospitality and delicious indigenous specialties.
